ISLAMABAD (Feb 14, 2025) - Coordinator to the Prime Minister for Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, has stressed the vital need for collaboration between the public and private sectors in tackling climate change and promoting sustainable development.
In a meeting with a three-member delegation from the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the PM’s climate aide underlined the significance of innovative green initiatives and highlighted that countries like Pakistan, which are particularly vulnerable, urgently require access to climate funding rather than loans.
Her remarks were part of a broader call for stronger collaboration between governments, industries, and international organizations to address environmental challenges, stressing stressed the crucial role the private sector in driving investment and developing green technologies.
Aisha Humera Moriani, Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change, shed light on the government's programmes and policy efforts being implemented to promote electric vehicle adoption, particularly focusing on electric two-wheelers.
She explained that the government is exploring the possibility of offering auto loans to support the transition to renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions.
The Ministry’s Secretary Aisha Humera emphasized the importance of supporting sustainable transportation and integrating circular economy principles that reduce waste and improve resource efficiency. She also suggested that GGGI could play a key role in tackling water management challenges in Balochistan and Sindh, while supporting Punjab’s solid waste management efforts.
These initiatives aim to align policy strategies with climate-resilient development goals to build a more sustainable future, she added.
