Islamabad, (February 6, 2025) – Ms. Valerie Hickey, Global Director for Climate Change at the World Bank, called on Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change. Both sides discussed collaborative strategies for enhancing Pakistan’s climate resilience and sustainability.
The meeting, titled “Strengthening Climate Action,” focused on expanding partnerships with international organizations like the World Bank to bolster climate finance, technology transfer, and capacity-building.
Ms. Romina emphasized the urgent need for increased financial and technical support to accelerate Pakistan’s transition to climate resilience. Key areas of focus included renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and disaster risk management, aligning with Pakistan’s climate goals under the Paris Agreement and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Ms. Hickey reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s climate agenda, highlighting the importance of climate-smart investments, innovative financing, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. She also praised Ms. Romina’s leadership in advocating for Pakistan’s climate priorities on global platforms.
The meeting explored scaling up nature-based solutions, improving climate governance, and fostering public-private partnerships to drive sustainable development. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and aligning climate policies with Pakistan’s socio-economic priorities, marking a significant step in the country’s climate diplomacy.
