- Kyrgyzstan is actively working on developing a National Adaptation Plan (NAP), which aims to reduce the country's vulnerability to climate change.
- The roundtable, organized under the UNDP-ZCF project, brought together representatives of government agencies, international organizations, academia and the civil sector, highlighting the importance of a collective approach to climate policy.
- Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Asel Raimkulova noted that the NAP is an important tool for integrating adaptation measures into national policies and fulfilling commitments under the Paris Agreement.
- Two new areas have been added to the updated draft NAP: energy and sustainable urban development, which expands the scope of the plan to include important sectors such as disaster management, health and agriculture.
- The project includes consolidation of the NAP, as well as the development of a monitoring and evaluation system that will allow for better tracking of progress in climate change adaptation.
- UNDP Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan Alexandra Solovyova emphasized the importance of participation of all stakeholders, including business and civil society, for successful implementation of the NAP.
- The Ministry called on participants to actively make proposals and participate in shaping climate policy, which will make the NAP a basis for future reforms and projects aimed at sustainable development of the country.
